You understand that by viewing this website, you will be introduced to an integrative holistic body-centered approach to psychotherapy that incorporates both traditional and non-traditional methods. Some of the non-traditional methods offered included Inner Counselor Process, yoga, and meditation ( the “Non-Traditional Methods”). Specifically, Inner Counselor is a progressive, whole systems approach to self-healing and integration. It is a transformational approach, designed to move clients beyond their stories to experience a greater sense of joy and wholeness through a unique process of personality integration. Inner Counselor Techniques™ expand on the work of psychologists such as Abraham Maslow, Carl Gustav Jung, and William James. The techniques target both spiritual and psychological dimensions to assist clients in changing their automatic response patterns. In addition, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT Tapping) is offered which is considered an energy-based mind-body method based on the newly emerging field of Energy Psychology. EFT Tapping seeks to address imbalances within a person’s energy system, as well as the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions on the body. The prevailing premise of EFT Tapping is that the source of all challenging, stressful, and negative emotions and limiting beliefs is a disruption in the body’s energy system. It is believed that EFT Tapping helps clear these disruptions, thereby restoring the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies. EFT Tapping uses the ancient Chinese meridian system with a gentle tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian end points on the face and upper body while saying specific phrases and focusing on issues of emotional intensity in order to release the intensity and reframe the issues. The theory of energy-based methods such as EFT Tapping is that the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies are important for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, and for fostering well-being.
Although the Non-Traditional Methods and EFT Tapping appear to have promising health benefits, and there is a growing amount of valid scientific research that EFT meets the criteria to be considered an evidenced-based method, they are considered outside of traditional Western approaches to health and wellness and have yet to be fully researched by the Western academic, medical, and psychological communities. Therefore, the Non-Traditional Methods and EFT Tapping may be considered experimental and the extent of their effectiveness, as well as their risks and benefits, are not fully known. The Non-Traditional Methods and EFT are considered to be an alternative or complementary approaches.
